What it is

Personal Freedom Indicator (PFI) measures negative liberty—freedom from external constraint, coercion, and lock-in. Respondents answer 23 questions (A / B / C) and receive a score from 0 to 100 across four tiers (C / B / A / S).

Scoring

A = 2 points, B = 1 point, C = 0 points, N/A = excluded. Personal Freedom Indicator = round(clamp(0, 100, (S / (2 × n)) × 100)), where S is the sum of points over valid answers and n is the count of valid answers. Tiers: C: Highly Structured (0–29), B: Partially Constrained (30–59), A: Autonomous (60–89), S: Independent (90–100). Heuristic self-assessment — thresholds and A/B/C weights are author-defined, not research-derived cutoffs. N/A is reserved for objective non-applicability only and must not be used as a generic skip.
